These little posts are some of my favorite to write! The Love List is a series of the first five to ten things I think of that have brought me joy lately. Here’s what’s on my mind!
1. Needlepoint
Needlepoint has been around a long time, but it’s going through a bit of a resurgence right now. After seeing one too many super cute designs on Instagram I decided to give it a try. Now that I’ve been at it for about a month, I’m so glad I picked up this hobby. I LOVE IT. So much so that I’m considering starting a club (in-person? virtual? I have no clue!) While there are plenty of ways to make it more complicated (new stitches, painting your own canvas, finishing your own pieces, etc.), just the basic stitch on a pre-painted canvas is essentially paint-by-numbers. Give it a try (and if you need help getting started, let me know!)
2. Our First Anniversary
I can’t believe we just celebrated our first anniversary! We took a trip to Charleston (that I recapped here) and it was so fun to get away for a few days to reflect on our first year and enjoy exploring a new city. If you want to read more about our wedding details click here. If the past year is any indication of what the next 50 years will be like, I can’t imagine the happiness that is to come!
3. More Time Outside
We have a huge backyard with a concrete patio, and ever since we moved in last August, I’ve been dreaming of ways to make the space a fun place to spend time. I wanted to find a way to spruce up our patio on a budget and after scouring Pinterest, I found the perfect solution. We set posts in larger planters with concrete and added string lights to give us a little more light in the evenings. Above the concrete, we left enough room to plant some zinnias and lantana (which I’m hoping I can keep alive!). We currently have two Adirondack chairs and I’m on the hunt for an affordable outdoor coffee table now. A special thanks to my parents for helping bring it all together a few weeks ago! We’re loving the space even more now!
4. TikTok
I don’t know why, but I’ve been so self-conscious about my TikTok account. I think it’s because there’s so much stigma around the app (that it’s only for Gen-Z, that it’s only for popular dances, etc.). But it is so much FUN and I love the little (and growing!) community I have there. It’s also helped me build up some confidence in my style and voice! Truthfully, I feel more confident sharing on TikTok than I do on my Instagram, and I’m trying to work through why I feel that way…. any thoughts? You can follow me on TikTok here if you want!
5. Back to Painting
Fun fact: I started painting and selling my work way back in middle school! My parents were so supportive and would take me on countless trips to craft stores for supplies. They even helped me set up at local festivals and always shared my artwork on their social media! As I’m slowly figuring out what it looks like to be a freelance artist, I’m so happy that I’ve picked up my paintbrushes again. There’s something about painting that is so freeing and I’m excited to add some original art to my Etsy shop soon.
